Why Do I Need Gutters On My Home?
Without properly installed quality gutters, rain will introduce water
back to your home causing rot damage
to exterior doors and windows, and other wood which can result in
extensive damage and expensive repair work.
The water can also damage landscaping
and even your foundation. When it
rains it is also very windy at times and that is what will cause the
damage to occur with poorly installed or clogged gutters (like the one
shown) just as with no gutters at all.
East Coast Gutters & Siding is located in Colonial Beach, VA
and with our local weather we have a lot of rain at once or long
periods of time without any. This is not good for foundations and will
promote movement in the earth below your home. Too much water is just
as bad as not enough and you should control water run off with a
gutter system to carry it at least 3ft from your foundation. In times
of no rain, you should water your foundation with a soaker hose or
sprinkler system. |

attractive, maintenance free gutter guards to your gutters that will

Do I really need Waterfall Vinyl Gutter Guard Protection? You Bet!
Here’s why!
Having dirty, clogged gutters prevents water flow and
can be just as bad or even worse than having no gutters at all. If you
do not have the time or ability to clean the gutters and perform
regular maintenance, then you need Waterfall Vinyl Gutter Guard©. Good
gutter cover protection prevents clogs, birds’ nests, debris, and
plant life from building up in your gutters and you never have to
clean your gutters again.

Great weather... if you're a duck!
Rain gutters aren't very exciting. You probably never even notice
yours until something goes wrong with them.
Then, it's the wrong kind of excitement!
Gutters and downspouts (rainspouts) collect and carry away rainwater
that would otherwise run off the roof and splash down, eroding the
soil and staining the siding.
More important, gutters and downspouts form the first line of defense
against a wet basement or crawl space.
If you let water collect along the foundation, hydrostatic pressure
will build, and water will eventually find its way inside your house!
|
| If your downspouts or gutters have leaks, don't wait
for the telltale water stains in your basement to decide to get the
gutters replaced!
Tip: Have you cleaned your gutters lately?
Debris piled high in gutters can cause expensive damage to fascia
boards and roof rafters. The debris will act like a wick and bring
water in the bottom of the gutter up to the fascia.

Gutter Maintenance
-- Now's the Time!
Plugged gutters and downspouts can be worse than none at all. Instead
of directing rainwater away from your house, plugged gutters and
downspouts block the water flow and force it to go where it shouldn't
-- e.g., against roof sheathing, siding and soffit or onto your
driveway and into your garage. Over time this can lead to rot and the
need for expensive repairs.
It's best to check and clean your gutters and downspouts twice a year:
in the spring, after the winter rains, and in the fall, before the
next rainy season. If you have big trees near enough to your home to
drop leaves onto your roof, clean your gutters more often.
All you need to get started is a ladder, work gloves, a bucket, a
garden hose and motivation. Galvanized gutters are sturdy enough to
lean a ladder against, but aluminum gutters are not. When in doubt,
use a stepladder, stabilizer bars or some other arrangement that will
spare your gutter. Make sure the ladder is absolutely safe before you
climb it.
Reach into the gutter with a gloved hand and sweep it for debris. Put
the debris in a bucket and haul it down, or simply drop the debris on
the ground to clean up later. When you think you've got that stretch
of gutter clean, hook up your garden hose and run a hefty volume of
water through the whole system. This will flush out any remaining
debris as well as let you know if the downspout is working.
Performing repairs in wet weather is not just a drag for you -- it
also limits your choice of repair materials. So be sure to do your
cleaning when there is dry weather on the horizon -- that way you'll
have plenty of time to perform unexpected repairs.
